81-year-old Venkappa has been contributing to the folk music industry for around six decades.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 110th edition of ‘Mann ki Baat’ on Sunday. The recent address marked his second programme of the monthly radio broadcast. While addressing the people through his radio show, PM Modi spoke about various topics including wildlife, women empowerment, and Drone Didi. Amidst this, he also heaped praises on K. Venkappa Ambaji Sugatekar, a folk singer from Karnataka.

Calling the renowned folk singer an inspiration, PM Modi noted, “The life of K. Venkappa Ambaji Sugatekar from Karnataka is an inspiration in this regard. Resident of Bagalkot, Sugatekar ji is a folk singer. He has sung more than 1,000 Gondhali songs.” The folk singer was also praised by PM Modi for his move to teach singing to thousands of people free of cost. Venkappa Ambaji believes in spreading the magic of art which is why he does not charge money to teach people interested in learning singing skills.

81-year-old Venkappa has been contributing to the folk music industry for around six decades. Throughout these years, he has earned various accolades and admiration from people respecting his impeccable talent. He was conferred with an honorary doctorate by the Karnataka Folklore University. Besides, he earned many awards from the Karnataka government for his services to the public including the Rajyotsava Award.

Besides singing regional songs and folk songs, Venkappa also earned fame for his appearance in thousands of programs in the nation and even abroad. He also did a program for Akashvani and Doordarshan. Among the many stars in the music industry, Venkappa’s name shines as an irreplaceable artist whose talent and skills will be remembered for years.

Meanwhile, PM Modi, on his radio show, also informed that the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast will not be aired for the next three months given the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
