BMC said the water supply from Thane and Bhiwandi to Mumbai via lines two and three has also been kept shut due to the incident

The water supply in several parts of Mumbai will remain affected due to the fire that broke out at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s ‘Pise’ water pump station. The fire at the pumping station was reported on Monday evening and according to the BMC, it will take 24 hours to normalise the water supply of the city.

Because of this incident, the water supply from the Golanji, Fosbery, Raoli, and Bhandarwada reservoirs in the city has been severely affected.

Consequently, there has been no water supply to some parts of the city and the eastern suburbs since midnight. While the remaining parts of the city are facing a 30 per cent water cut.

According to BMC, the water supply will remain disrupted for a net 24 hours. This will further affect the western suburbs and a few parts of Mumbai city.

The BMC administration has urged citizens to cooperate and utilize water resources judiciously during this challenging period.

The incident occurred on Monday evening when one of the transformers of the water pumping station caught fire. Due to the fire, the electricity supply of the entire area was cut, hence, all pumps at the station were switched off.

The official said that once the fire is doused completely, the department will undertake work to repair the affected transformer on priority and will restore the water supply of the pumping station.

“The prompt cooperation of residents is essential to mitigate the impact of the disruption and ensure that essential water services can be restored as swiftly as possible,” BMC said in a statement.

As per the statement, the water supply from Thane and Bhiwandi to Mumbai via lines two and three has also been kept shut due to this incident.
